Kathy Cunningham: A Lifelong Lover of Books and Literacy
Kathy Cunningham’s love for books began when her father read Little Golden Books to her as a child, igniting a lifelong passion for reading. Helping others access books has always been close to her heart, which is why joining the Fremont County Library Foundation felt like such a meaningful way to give back to the community.
With 28 years of experience as a middle school teacher and Literacy Coordinator at FCSD #38, Kathy’s dedication to literacy has spanned both her professional and personal life. After retiring from teaching, she embraced her love for books even further by owning and operating a bookstore for nine years, where she found joy in engaging with the local book community.
Kathy’s love for literature runs deep. It all started with Five Little Peppers and How They Grew in fourth grade, and today she’s drawn to books with strong characters. One of her current favorites is Table for Two by Amor Towles.
If she could have coffee with anyone, it would be with author Ann Patchett at her bookstore in Nashville—a dream meeting for any book lover.
In her free time, Kathy has become an avid quilter, crafting beautiful quilts for the Girls Group Home each Christmas. She also adores her two rescued cats, who now enjoy very spoiled lives under her care.
Kathy’s lifelong commitment to literacy and her love for books make her a perfect fit for the Fremont County Library Foundation, where she continues to champion access to literature for all.
